Flora
The park is known for the lush green forest comprising around 350 plant species. Main vegetation of the dry deciduous forest are dhok (Anogeissus pendula), Kulu (Sterculia urens), ronj (Acacia leucophloea), Jamun (Syzygium cumini), Kadam (Authocephalus cadamba), Khajur (Phoenix sylvestris), Khair (Accacia catechu), ber (Zizyphus maudrentiana), khimi (Manilkara hexandra), Am (Magnifera Indica), Imli (Tamarindicus indica), Babul (Accasia nilotica), Banyan (Ficus benghalensis), tendu (Diospyrous melanoxylon), polas (Butea monosperma), Karel (Capparis decidua), Khejda (Prosopis specigera), Kakera (Flacourtia indica), Mohua (Madhuca indica), Neem (Azadirachta indica) salar (Boswellia serrata), gurjan (Lannea coromandelica) and gum (Sterculia urens), peepal etc.
Fauna
The major attraction of the Ranthambore National Park are the Tigers. Wide variety of wildlife comprising of several mammal and reptiles species attract the animal lovers. Caracal, langur, leopards, panthers, Nilgai, common Mongoose, chital, sambar, desert cat, wild boars, Palm civet, common yellow cat, Indian flying fox, Indian Gazelle, chinkara, Indian Mole rat, Spotted dear, striped Hyena, five striped Palm Squirrel, Indian Gerbil are some of the mammal species which can be commonly seen. Among the reptiles Banded Krait, Cobra, Crocodile, Turtle, Indian Python, Rat Snake, Russell's Viper, the Desert Monitor Lizard and Indian Chameleon makes the tour thrilling.
Avifauna
Ranthambore National Park is the perfect destination for the bird watchers. Visitors can see about 270 species of domestic and migratory birds here. Herons, Bitterns, Graylag Goose, Indian Gray Hornbills, Common Kingfishers, Bee Eaters, Cuckoos, Parakeets, Asian Palm Swift, Drongos, Flycatchers, Sandpipers, Gulls, Terns, Great Crested Grebe, Eagles, Darters, Cormorants, Egrets, Woodpeckers, Flamingos, Ibis, Pelicans, Storks, Pittas, Shrikes, Treepies, Crows, Orioles, Cuckoo-Shrikes, Nightjars, Pigeon, Minivets, Ioras, Wood-Shrikes, Sparrows, Finches, Wagtails, Pipits, Bayas, Munias, Bulbul, Mynas, Falcons Owl, Dove, Crakes, Snipes make tourists delighted.
Major Attractions
Ranthambore Fort
It is situated in the centre of the park and was built in the 10th century. It is believed to be the oldest fort in Rajasthan.
Jogi Mahal
It is a fantastic forest guesthouse and it houses the Banyan tree which is believed to be the second -largest in India.
Lakes
The three beautiful lakes are situated in the park namely Padam Talao, Raj Bagh Talao and Malik Talao and draw wildlife and tourists.
Location
This national park is situated on a vast landscape of 1,334 sq km in Rajasthan and is surrounded by the Aravalli and the Vindhya ranges.
Best time to Visit
The park is open for tourists from October to June but the best time to visit is from November to April.
