| Amarnath Yatra is arranged every year by the Jammu and Kashmir Government during the month of July and August. The Amarnath Cave is devoted to natural Shiva-linga formed by ice, and is situated in the panoramic site of the Himalayas. Surrounded by picturesque snowy mountains and valleys, one can see very unpredictable weather here. Legend say that in this cave, Lord Shiva narrated the secret of creation to Goddess Parvati. It is believed that the size of the Shiva-linga changes with the season and it reaches to the maximum height in the full moon day. | ![]() |

As Pahalgam is the base camp for the pilgrimage to Amarnath Caves, it has many good hotels to stay. Accommodation is also provided by the Jammu & Kashmir Development Corporation in tourists Bungalow in Pahalgam. Some N.G.Os too provides tented accommodation. Budget Hotels
