
Kodaikanal is a lovely hill station set amongst the gentle slopes of the Palani hills close to Madurai. At a height of 2133 mtrs above sea level this hill station was founded by the American missionaries in 1845. The famous Kurinji flower, which blooms once in twelve years is the pride of Kodaikanal. This magnificent star-shaped lake is a main landmark of the hill station. It spreads on a vast landscape of sixty acres and is surrounded by green meadows. Several racing trips are offered by the boat club in this lake.
The park lies at the centre of the town and spreads on an area of 20.5 acres. It is popular for its flowers, hybrids and grafts. One can see around 325 species of trees and shrubs here. An artificial pool, a glass house, 150 years old Eucalyptus tree are the attractions of this park Visitors can also enjoy the beauty of more than 740 varieties of roses here. The annual horticulture show is held here in May and must not be missed.
This flora and fauna museum is maintained by the Sacred Heart College and is 5.5 kms from Kodaikanal lake. Also located here is the best orchidariams in the country with 300 species of orchids.
The site is close to Kodaikanal lake and derived the name from Lt Coaker, who prepared the map of Kodai. It is one of the best vantage locations of Kodaikanal offering fascinating view of the plains and the distant hills.
