Kashmir

The enchanting snow capped peeks, lush green valleys, marvelous streams and the thick meadows are some of the charateristics of this beautiful hill station. Because of its charming beauty it is said to be the 'Paradise on Earth'. Being the part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir it spreads on both sides of the river Jhelum and includes Kashmir Valley, Jammu and Ladakh. One can see diverse flora comprising of trees like Chinar, deodar, pine, fir, walnut, almond and cidar in the mountain ranges in the Kashmir Valley. Leopard , cheetah, deer, wild sheep, muskrat and bear add upto the varied wildlife of Kashmir. Kashmir also offers memorable staying in the floating houseboats on the Dal lake.

By Air : Airport is located at Srinagar and is connected through flights to Delhi, leh and Jammu.

By Rail : The closest railway station to Kashmir is Jammu.

Attraction
Dal Lake
It is popularly known as the Jewel in the crown of Kashmir and is located in Srinagar. This marvelous lakes include four lakes namely Gagribal, Lokut Dal, Bod Dal and the Nagin Lake. One can see numerous house boats and shikaras floating on this lake. The Dal lake also offer several water sports activities such as kayaking, canoeing and water skiing. Shikara riding must be enjoyed here.

Nishat Garden
It is one of the most beautiful mughal gardens in Kashmir. It was built by Asif Khan, brother of Queen Nur Jehan in 1633 A.D. The lake is situated along the banks of the Dal lake in Srinagar and is known for the varied flora.

Gulmarg
GulmargThe place is often called the 'Meadow of Flowers' and lies in the Baramulla district of Kashmir. This tourist spot stands at a height of 2730 mtrs and has excellent golf course. Close to Gulmarg visitors can also trek to Alpather Lake which remains frozen for most of the year. Khilanmarg and the shrine of Baba Reshi is also worth visit in Gulmarg.

Sonamarg
It is close to Srinagar and is popularly known as the Golden Meadows. This beautiful town lies at an elevation of 2740 mtrs in the Srinagar- Leh highway along the river Sindh. High mountains and alpine flowers attract tourists to this beautiful town.

Location
Kashmir is the northern most state of India and is widely known for its natural beauty and pleasant climate. It appears as a crown of India and is separated from the Jammu area by Pir Panjal mountain ranges.

Best Time to Visit
Kashmir is a pleasant destination to be visited from May to October. In the summer months, the place offers many adventure sports like water skiing, water trekking, trout fishing and mountaineering.
