Konark - Puri - Bhubaneshwar

Sun Temple, KonarkSixty-five kilometers from Bhubaneshwar lies the small town of Konark It is the World Heritage site of Sun Temple which was built in the 13th century by King Narasimhadeva I. The Konark Dance festival is the major attraction of this Sun city which is held every year in the first week of December. Eminent classical dancers flock to this city to present live performances. This lovely town of Orissa is most frequently visited between October and March as weather is pleasant during this time. It is easily accessible by road from the coastal town of Puri(35 kms) and Bhubaneshwar. Konark also has plenty of accommodation options ranging from luxury to economy and budget hotels.

Konark offers lot of tourist attractions. The prime attraction which draws tourists from all over the world is the Sun Temple which is also called the Black Pagoda. The temple is known for its brilliant architecture and is a masterpiece. Other noteworthy attractions are Konark Beach, Mayadevi Temple and the Archaelogical Museum.

Puri is located 60 kms from Bhubaneshwar and is the most important pilgrimage destination for the Hindus. Puri has earned many names such as Nilachal, Purushotam and Jagannath Dham and attract people from far and wide during the renowned Rath Yatra which commences in the month of June-July. During this Yatra, Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and sister Subhadra are installed in the decorated wooden chariots and are taken through the streets of Puri to Gundicha Ghar, believed to be the home of Lord Krishna's aunt. It is believed auspicious to pull the ropes of this chariot. One can reach Puri conveniently by rail or road from Konark and Bhubaneshwar. Summers are too hot here so it is favourable to visit this land of Jagannath in the winter months.

There are endless list of attraction here. One can start from the Jagannath Temple, a specimen of Kalinga architecture and move to the sandy beaches experiencing the breathtaking beauty of sunrise and sunset. The Gundicha Ghar, Atharnala Bridge and Indradyumna Tank are also worth visit here.


Bhubaneshwar is the capital city of the state of Orissa. This temple town is known for its unique temple architecture and one can see exquisite carvings and sculpture in the numerous temples located here. This bustling city is an important commercial center of the state and can be visited right through the year. It is never a problem to reach this city as it is well connected by road, rail and air with all the major cities.
Caves of Udaygiri, BhubaneshwarBhubaneshwar offers lot to see like the exotic caves of Khandagiri and Udaygiri, hot springs of Atri, the Yogini shrine of Hirapur, the famous Lingaraj Temple and the Nandankanan Sanctuary and Biological park. Besides these Mukteshwar Temple, Tribal Research Institute Musuem, Rajarani Temple State Museum, Ekamra Haat and Nicco Park also attract the visitors.
