Bangalore - Mysore - Ooty
Bangalore
is the most happening city in India and is also called the Silicon Valley of
India for its fast growing software industry. This capital city of Karnataka
is studded with beautiful parks, imposing buildings and lively bazaars. It
is never a problem to visit this city by road. Mysore is 140 kms from
Bangalore while Ooty and Tirupati are 300 kms and 240 kms respectively.
There are several train services also to this hi-tech city like the Rajdhani
Express and the Karnataka Express from Delhi, the Udayan Express and the
Kurla Express from Mumbai, the Brindavan Express and the Shatabdi Express
from Chennai.
This beautiful city is an excellent place to visit with lots of noteworthy
attractions. Vidhan Soudha, home to the State legislature and the
Secretariat. Built of Granite, is a four storied structure known for the
Neo-Dravidian style of architecture. Yet another phenomenal attraction is
the Lal Bagh Gardens, built by HyderAli in 1760 in the vast landscape of 100
hc. The glass house, based on London Palace, is the major attraction of this
park. Other outstanding attraction of Bangalore are the Cubbon Park, the
Government Musuem, Tipu sultan's fort and palace, the Bull Temple and the
Ulsoor Lake.
139 kms away from south-west of Bangalore lies the city of
Mysore.
It is one of the major cities of Karnataka and is known for its gardens and
palaces. The city with its rich history has many attractions begining from
the royal Mysore Palace to the enchanting Dussehra festival. The excellent
route to reach Mysore is via Bangalore. Many trains operate from Bangalore
and Mysore. As there is no airport in Mysore one has to check out at
Bangalore only. By road it is a three-hour journey from Bangalore. Karnataka
Road Transport Corporation and private buses make it easy to reach this
city.

The
city of Mysore offers a lot to see. Mysore Palace, is the landmark of the
city and perhaps the most ornate example of Indo-Sarcenic architecture. A
solid gold throne studded with the jewels remains the most resplendent
object that visitors throng to see here. St.Philomena's Church, one of the
largest churches in India is known for its gothic style architecture and
pulls in toursits in large numbers. Chamundi Hills close to Mysore is home
to 12th century temple of Chamundeswari and also a venue of Mysore Dussehra.
Brindavan Gardens, Mysore Zoo, Jagan Mohan Art Gallery and Varshaswamy
Temple are other famous attractions of Mysore.
Ooty is a beautiful hill station located in the Nilgiri
hills at 2286 m above sea level. It is 276 km from Bangalore and
characterize by lofty mountains, lush forest, rolling grasslands and
numerous tea estates. Coimbatore(88 kms) is the closest airport from this
popular hill station. The perfect base for the visitors who plan to visit
this lovely hill station by train are Ooty and Mettupalayam railway station.
Direct buses also operate from Bangalore, Chennai and other major cities. A
four hour jouney across tea plantations, dense forest and pretty hill
stations by small toy train to Ooty from Mettupalayam is a marvellous
experience for the visitors.
There are many places that one can visit in Ooty.
Botanical Gardens, maintained by the Horticulture Department of Tamil Nadu
is the major attraction of Ooty.

It houses more than 650 species of plants and trees along with 20 million
years old tree fossil. Summer festival is also organised here followed by
flower shows and cultural programmes. Another place to visit here is the
Ooty Lake, it is a artificial lake constructed by John Sullivan, the then
Collector of Coimbatore. Boat races are conducted here during the summer
festival. One must not miss the Government Musuem. The musuem houses a
fasinating collection of tribal objects, district's ecological details and
sculptural arts and crafts of Tamil Nadu. Dodabetta Peak, Lamb's rock,
Kokanadu's View Point, Kotagiri and Coonoor are several other sites that are
worth a visit here.
