Ellora Festival

The festival recalls the brilliant past and splendid architecture of the caves. The marvelous Ellora Caves is flocked by tourists in March to watch the renowned Ellora festival. Organised by the Maharashtra State Tourism Corporation, it is a festival of music and dance. Artists from different parts of India and abroad participate in the festival and show their talents by giving performances. It is excellent to view the magnificent caves during the festival.

Getting There

By Air : The closest airport is located at Aurangabad.

By Rail : The nearest railhead is Aurangabad and comes in the South Central Railway.

By Road : Aurangabad has an excellent networks of road. One can take taxi for Ellora Caves which is 30 kms from Aurangabad.

Every year in March, the famous Ellora Festival of music and dance is organised amid the pictursque surroundings of the Ellora caves. 30 kms away from Aurangabad, these caves act as a platform for the performing artists to show their talents in music and dance.

Attraction

Ellora Caves

Ellora caves are 34 in number and comprises of monasteries and temples of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism faith. The caves carved out of the Chamadri hills date back to 600-1000 A.D.and is known for the intricate interiors and ornamental facades. The Kailash temple, carved out of single rock is a masterpeice and is the major attraction here.

Daulatabad Fort

It is close to Ellora caves and situated atop the hill. King Bhillama of Yadav dynasty erected the fort in the 12th century and named it Devgiri. Later the name of the fort was changed to Daulatabad by Mohammed Bin Tughlaq, the Sultan of Delhi. The huge walls and gates attract large number of tourists to this fort.

Bibi-Ka-Maqbara

It is a tomb built in the memory of Aurangzeb's wife Rabia-ud-Daurani Begum. It is similar to the TajMahal and is called the Taj of Deccan. The mausoleum is known for its exquisite architecture and must be visited.
