Beaches are the important tourists
attraction in Kerala. There are many beaches to see among which Kovalam
beach is the most popular. One can see the entire coastline dotted with
fishing villages and beaches lined by palm and coconut groves. Known world

Alappuzha Beach
This long sandy beach lies 55 kms from Kannur. Also known as the Aleppey
beach, it is spectacular and is characterized by dense palm groves. Vijaya

attraction of the beach. The carved stone pillars, the burial chamber, the
cave and an ancient mosque are also worth visit. Old light house in the

Bekal Beach
This is one of the most beautiful beaches of Kerala and is 14 kms from
Kasargode. The beach is ideal for sun bath. From the Bekal fort one can
enjoy the breathtaking view of palm fringed beach.
Varkala Beach
It is located 54 kms north of Thiruvananthapura and is known for the
mineral water springs. The beach is flanked by thousands of palm trees and
green paddy fields. It is home to Nature cure center and an ancient
Janardhana Swamy temple which is believed to be 2000 years old . Close to
the beach, one can also see the Sivagiri Mutt. It is an ideal spot for
watching sunset. It is an important pilgrimage centre for the Hindus and is
also called Papanasam beach.
Beypore Beach
It is close to Kozhikode and is situated along the Chliyar river. It was a
prominent port and fishing harbour of ancient Kerala. Boat building yard can
be seen by the visitors here. Two km long stone bridge is one of the major
attractions at Beypore.
Cherai Beach
It is 45 kms from Ernakulam. Paddy fields and Coconut groves enhances the
beauty of this beach. Poyil a large inland lake is the main attraction of
the Cherai beach. It also includes some historical monuments such as the
Pallipuram fort, a jewish synagogue, a church and a temple.
Kovalam Beach
This most beautiful beach is situated 16 km south of Thiruvananthapuram.
Popularly known as the 'Paradise of the South' , it offers an endless sight
of coconut trees.The beach here consists of three small crescent beaches,
the Lighthouse Beach in the south, Hawa Beach in the centre and the Samudra
Beach in the North . The beach has many ayurvedic parlours, yoga and
meditation centres. The golden sands on the brilliant sun is is fantastic
and one feels enchanted to see the lovely coconut and palm groves here.
Kappad
Beach
It lies 16kms from Kozhikode. This beach is of great historical importance
as Vasco- da-Gama landed here in 1498. Set amidst the fishing village, the
beach is known for the fascinating rock formation and sandy beaches.
Best Time to Visit
Monsoons are best for the ayurvedic treatment in Kerala beaches though it
is avoidable for sight seeing. It is nice to visit the beaches from November
to February.

the serene blue water, sun bathe in the tropical sun, kayaking and skiing.
