Amarnath India
Amarnath Yatra is arranged every year by the Jammu and Kashmir Government during the month of July and August. The Amarnath Cave is devoted to natural Shiva-linga formed by ice, and is situated in the panoramic site of the Himalayas. Surrounded by picturesque snowy mountains and valleys, one can see very unpredictable weather here. Legend say that in this cave, Lord Shiva narrated the secret of creation to Goddess Parvati. It is believed that the size of the Shiva-linga changes with the season and it reaches to the maximum height in the full moon day.
Getting There
By Air : Nearest domestic airport is located in Badgam district and is connected with major cities in India.
By Road :Bus service is available from Srinagar(141kms) and Pahalgam(46kms).
By Rail : The closest railhead is at Jammu, 300 kms away from Amarnath

Attractions
Pahalgam
It is the starting point of the annual Amarnath yatra. Situated on the banks of river lidder, it is also called the 'jewel hillstation'. Dense forest of Baisaran, Hajan, Chandanwari, and shiva temple in Mamal must be visited.
Chandanwadi
The village lies at an elavation of 2895mtrs. Along the banks of river Lidder, the village is surrounded by the snow covered mountains and is known for the awe-inspiring beauty. Pilgrims halt at this village on their way to the Amarnath Caves at night.
Sheshnag
It is located at an elevation of 3352mts above sea level and one can see a vast landscape comprising pineforest, mountain streams, hills and valleys here which are alluring.It also houses the Sheshnag Lake, covered mostly with ice. One of the most captivating site here is the mountain with seven peaks.
Panchtarni
Located 14km away from Sheshnag, this is a place where pilgrims make an overnight stay. To reach Panchtarni one has to pass over the Mahagunas Pass, situated at an altitude of 4276mtrs. Visitors can see the coinfluence of five rivers here.

141km from Srinagar, at an altitude of 3888 mts lies Amarnath. The sacred Amarnath cave is about 150mt high and 90mt long. It is a hot pilgrimage destination for the Hindus especially during the months of July and August.
